Christa’s Story: A Tough Recovery That Was Worth It All
Christa faced nearly 15 years of debilitating headaches and pain following multiple head traumas from car accidents and severe illnesses like Lyme disease and malaria. These conditions left her bedridden, suffering from relentless pain, balance issues and severe migraines. The agony was so intense that simple tasks like tucking her three young boys into bed, enjoying meals or participating in family activities were impossible. Despite consulting numerous doctors and trying multiple treatments, nothing provided lasting relief, leading her to almost give up on any expectations for a pain-free life.
In her search for a solution, Christa found Dr. Lowenstein and underwent two surgeries — the first for her occipital headaches and the second for her frontal headaches. Although her recovery was challenging and prolonged, with initial setbacks and persistent pain, she experienced significant improvements around the four-month mark after her first surgery. The surgeries allowed her to regain a level of normalcy she hadn’t experienced in years.
Now, Christa is pain-free and able to participate in family activities, host and attend church gatherings and handle daily tasks that were once impossible due to the crushing, debilitating pain. She reported being able to do gardening and baking, enjoy meals with her family and even lead a Bible study — activities she had missed dearly. Christa’s story exemplifies the resilience and hope that Dr. Lowenstein’s surgeries can offer, even in the most challenging cases.
Christa’s Testimonials
“I’m just so grateful for your compassion. You were always very efficient and realistic and practical, but also compassionate. I’ve seen more doctors than I can count over the last 15 years, and I really appreciate that from you. There’s the professionalism but also compassion. And I think that’s a real blessing.”

“What a gift it is to be with our loved ones. And there’s just no comparison to the joy of being less hindered and being able to witness and participate in the day-to-day life. That’s the most precious part.”

Christine’s Triumph Over Occipital Neuralgia
Christine’s ordeal with occipital neuralgia (ON) began abruptly in 2015, marked by excruciating headaches, balance issues and tingling in her limbs. Over the next four years, she consulted over 30 medical professionals, was diagnosed with over 20 different conditions and underwent numerous tests and treatments without success.
Finally, in 2017, a neurologist diagnosed her with ON, although she had already self-diagnosed herself through the process of elimination by reading and analyzing all of her test results, symptoms and medical records. Despite various medications and procedures, including lumbar punctures and nerve blocks, nothing provided lasting relief.
In her extensive research, Christine found Dr. Lowenstein and decided to consult with him. Dr. Lowenstein offered hope, suggesting that migraine surgery might offer at least 50% pain relief. In March 2019, Christine flew to Santa Barbara for the surgery. Despite one insurance denial labeling the procedure as “experimental” and another denying it because she had alternative treatment options (although her neurologist at the time couldn’t tell her what those treatments were), she went ahead with the operation. The results were immediate and astonishing; Christine woke up pain-free and regained her balance, walking unaided for the first time in years.
Post-surgery, Christine’s life transformed. She resumed full-time work, engaged in physical activities and reached out to the doctors who had previously treated her, sharing her success story. Now, over five years post-op, she remains headache-free, living life to the fullest and grateful to Dr. Lowenstein for the life-changing surgery.
Christine’s Testimonial
“I had the surgery… when I woke up, I NO LONGER had a headache. I remember Dr. Lowenstein, immediately asking if my balance was restored. I was still lying in the recovery bed. 🙂 I got up and walked out of the office with no aid. All indications, the surgery was successful. I am over 5 years post-op and have no more headaches. I’m living life to its fullest and can do any activities I can think of. Thank you, Dr. Lowenstein, for all you do!!!”

Kinsey’s Life-Changing Migraine Relief
A bright and active young girl, Kinsey began experiencing headaches in the 5th grade that intensified by 7th grade into a severe, constant pounding that never ceased. The pain was so debilitating that she missed weeks of school, stopped playing sports and essentially lost her childhood to the relentless headaches. Despite seeking help from numerous medical professionals and trying nearly every available treatment, relief seemed perpetually out of reach.
Everything changed when Kinsey learned about Dr. Lowenstein’s migraine surgery. Intrigued and hopeful, Kinsey underwent the surgery the day after her 15th birthday. The results were nothing short of miraculous. Post-surgery, Kinsey experienced a substantial reduction in the frequency and severity of her migraines. Now 16 and preparing to be a senior in high school, she has her life back. She can focus on her studies and enjoys activities she once had to abandon.

Kinsey and Her Mother’s Testimonials
“It completely changed my life.”
— Kinsey
“The only regret I have is that we didn’t do it sooner. It changed her life. I watched her suffer for years, not being able to do anything, trying multiple hospitalizations, in-patient, every drug, everything, we tried everything and nothing worked. And it was really hard. […] We’re just so grateful. We got our daughter back. Thank you for giving us Kinsey back, giving her a future, a pain-free future. It’s… you can’t even say it in words.”
