Based on his own experience with migraine headaches, Dr. Lowenstein prides himself in providing outstanding patient care.
Born and raised in Washington DC, Dr. Lowenstein found his passion in medicine at a young age. His medical journey began in high school, where he worked in the pediatric trauma area at the Children’s National Medical Center. After studying molecular biology and genetics at the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Lowenstein attended medical school at the University of North Carolina. He then spent five years of general surgery training at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia before heading to the University of Massachusetts for two years of further residency in the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeries department.
After completing his training, Dr. Lowenstein moved to Denver, Colorado for seven years, where he performed complex reconstructive surgeries, including separating conjoined twins. Dr. Lowenstein then moved to Santa Barbara to start his own practice with Dr. Robert Sheffield. In Santa Barbara, Dr. Lowenstein maintained the highest level of care for his patients, advancing his expertise in aesthetic surgery of the face, breast, and body. His reputation for meticulous technique and outstanding results drew patients from all over the world.
Since childhood, Dr. Lowenstein had experienced intense headaches that were resistant to conventional therapies.
These headaches were usually tension related and had exacerbated to a very severe state during the 115 hour work weeks of his residency training. Though nearly debilitating, Dr. Lowenstein had no choice but to work through these migraines, nausea, and persistent pain because there was little knowledge about migraines at that time.
Because of his personal experience, Dr. Lowenstein is dedicated to providing help for migraine patients. He has a profound interest in the advancement and performance of migraine headache surgery because he understands that finding a resolution for migraines can be life-changing.
